Understanding Corporate Anointing — From Private Devotion to Multilevel Fellowship

By Overseer Pastor Taveau D’Arcy

In the Christian walk, believers experience the presence of God in various ways, ranging from private moments of devotion to large corporate gatherings. Understanding the distinction between these different experiences is key to recognizing the flow of the Holy Spirit and navigating the dynamics of human relationships in the Body of Christ.

This training will explore the progression from private fellowship with God to small group gatherings and eventually to large corporate fellowships, all while addressing the challenges that arise and how to biblically respond to them.

1. Private Fellowship: Your Quiet Time with the Lord

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”Matthew 6:6 (KJV)

The Essence of Private Time

  • Private time is deeply personal and unique to each believer.

  • It includes prayer, Bible reading, worship, and listening to God.

  • This is where spiritual intimacy is cultivated, convictions are formed, and personal growth occurs.

Purpose of Private Fellowship

  • Develop a personal relationship with God.

  • Gain spiritual clarity and discernment.

  • Receive inner healing and personal renewal.

  • Be filled with the Word and the Holy Spirit.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”James 4:8 (KJV)

2. Small Group Fellowship:

Two or Three Gathered in His Name

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”Matthew 18:20 (KJV)

The Power of Small Gatherings

  • Smaller gatherings often foster genuine connection, transparency, and trust.

  • These settings are conducive to open discussions, prayer, and deeper spiritual growth.

  • Accountability and encouragement are more natural in these intimate environments.

What to Expect in Small Fellowship

  • The Holy Spirit moves freely through conversation, prayer, and shared insights.

  • There is often greater opportunity for personal ministry and encouragement.

  • Group members may discern and confirm God’s leading in one another’s lives.

However, even in small groups, it is essential to practice humility, patience, and unity. Personalities, life experiences, and perspectives differ, requiring maturity in navigating potential misunderstandings or disagreements.

3. Corporate Fellowship:

The Multilevel Gathering

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”Acts 2:1 (KJV)

The Corporate Anointing

This is Sr Pastor, Dr’s Main Point

  • Corporate fellowship occurs when larger groups gather, often in churches, conferences, or multi-campus ministries.

  • The corporate anointing is the intensified presence of God that comes through unified worship, prayer, and teaching.

  • The Holy Spirit moves powerfully, often through collective praise, prophetic words, and preaching.

Benefits of Corporate Fellowship

  • Strengthened faith through communal worship.

  • Exposure to diverse spiritual gifts operating in unity.

  • Opportunity for mass teaching, training, and spiritual impartation.

  • TD ” and a highly possible, anointed “Move of the Spirit”

Challenges of Corporate Fellowship

  • Human nature, differences in beliefs, and cultural backgrounds can cause conflicts.

  • Misunderstandings, ego, and pride may arise.
  • **Leadership can become authoritarian or controlling if not rooted in servant leadership.(**Use caution LP)

  • People may bring personal offenses, prejudices, or sin issues into the gathering.

  • “Let all things be done decently and in order.”1 Corinthians 14:40 (KJV)

4. Biblical Responses to Challenges in Fellowship

In any fellowship — small or large — believers are called to walk in humility, love, and forgiveness. Here’s how Scripture instructs us to handle challenges:

  • Rebuke and Correct in Love

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV)

    • Leaders are called to correct false teaching, immorality, or disorder, but always with patience and sound doctrine.

  • Set in Order Through Godly Leadership

“For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city.”Titus 1:5 (KJV)

    • Mature leaders maintain spiritual order and unity without resorting to legalism or domination.

  • Practice Forgiveness and Reconciliation (TD wisely states “pre-train all of these”)

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)

    • In large fellowships, offenses will happen. Forgiveness and reconciliation are essential for maintaining unity.

  • Recognize and Train Spiritual Gifts

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”1 Corinthians 12:7 (KJV)

    • Encourage the use of spiritual gifts in alignment with Scripture for the building up of the Body of Christ.

5. Final Thoughts: Training for Balanced Fellowship

To equip believers for healthy fellowship across all levels, consider these practical applications:

  1. Emphasize Relationship Over Obligation — Teach that fellowship is not a legalistic requirement but an opportunity to grow and encourage one another.

  2. Discern the Spirit — Equip believers to recognize when the Spirit is present and when human ego, legalism, or manipulation is at play.

  3. Promote Humility and Servant Leadership — Leaders should model Christlike humility rather than operate in control or superiority.(TD mentions: a respect for “ONLY”  pet preffered type persons”)

  4. Embrace Diversity — Celebrate different backgrounds, ages, races, other other Christian ”types” , differing personalities, and perspectives, big generations, as part of the beauty of the Body of Christ.

  5. Teach Conflict Resolution — Provide biblical tools for addressing misunderstandings, offenses, and disagreements in a godly manner.

  6. Pure Relationship Respect:  Such as leaders, lay practice  self less, meek Pauline Galatians 6:1, Matthew 18:15-16 ” face to face in private “mature, leader -saint” proper and abiding James 3:17 “pure fruit” humble,(again calmly in private) confrontation, (not presuming by “seer divination, safely from afar, hearing and believe rumors “the evil report” and then warning, spreading false witness, and lies to others (THIS IS WHY I am not charismatic in ministry)

Conclude

From private devotion to small gatherings to large corporate settings, the goal remains the same — to glorify God, grow in faith, and encourage one another. May we seek His presence in all forms of fellowship, discerning the Spirit, and turning away from what is not of Him.

A Christ Followers Pure Selection: To Worship or Not to Worship Corporately with the Saints

Introduction

Worshiping corporately with the body of Christ is a vital part of spiritual growth and community life. However, there may be instances where discerning whether to participate in corporate worship becomes necessary, especially when concerns about doctrine, leadership, or spiritual health arise.(PS leader models of authority) This training manual offers both biblical insight and personal wisdom on why you should or should not attend corporate worship with fellow believers.

  •   The Biblical Mandate for Corporate Worship

Corporate worship has always been central to the life of God’s people. From the Old Testament gatherings in the synagogue to the New Testament practice of assembling in the early church, believers are called to worship together, encourage one another, and grow in faith through shared worship.

  •  Why Corporate Worship is Important
    Taveau’s Point:

Only Hebrews 10:25 is commanded at the local government level church. We apparently avoid  Hebrews 24:25 which  is ‘wholesome, healthy ,LIFE, church “authentic community which consists of “all attending, governing “relationships”

Note: The Bible emphasizes the importance of meeting together as a community of believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” This verse highlights the encouragement, accountability, and growth that come from worshiping together.

  •  The Unity in Corporate Worship

TD’s Point: This echoes Psalm 133, See Paul’s Ephesians 4 “the transformed community which woos society

(Where hearts are prepared and sincere) Corporate worship brings unity among believers. Jesus, in John 17, prayed that His followers would be one just as He and the Father are one.

Worshiping together in spirit and truth fosters this unity, allowing believers to share in the joy of their salvation and the pursuit of holiness. When we gather together, we are reminded that we are not isolated but part of a greater body—the Church.

  • Protection:Discernment in Choosing a Worship Community

My TD Big Main Point for Grass Roots now

While corporate worship is vital, not all worship communities align with biblical teaching or foster spiritual health. Leaders must be discerning about where they gather. This chapter will guide you through the process of discerning whether to attend a particular church or fellowship.

  • Your Safety Protection:  Evaluating Doctrinal Soundness

Not every church adheres to sound biblical doctrine. It is essential to ask, Does the teaching align with Scripture? Is there a commitment to biblical authority, or is there a reliance on extra-biblical teachings?

For example, false doctrine, such as prosperity theology or legalism, can mislead and harm your spiritual health, you quality of life, emotions, natural health, finances, separate your family… plus your  ongoing relationship with God, yourself, your spouse, others. And of this may be irreparable ‘while” we live on this mean Earth.

Leaders and lay, must discern whether a particular church teaches sound doctrine that aligns with the whole counsel of God’s Word (2 Timothy 4:2-4).

  •  Self Awareness: Understanding Church Leadership and Accountability

A major factor in determining whether to attend corporate worship is the leadership style.

Are leaders operating with a spirit of servant leadership, or is there an authoritarian or manipulative structure? Jesus warned against the type of leadership that lords over others (Matthew 20:25-28). Spiritual abuse and authoritarian control are signs to be cautious about when considering participation in a church.

  • The Fruits of the Church Community

Assessing the fruits of the worship community is also important.

How do all relationships relate:  interact, respect and value (from the top, staff, elders, leaders, lay)

Is the church a place of love, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit, or is it marked by accusation, prophetic talebearing us against them ,prophetic paranoia, false witness, division, legalism, and dark emotional avoidant mind games, manipulation?

The apostle Paul’s teachings in 1 Corinthians 12 emphasize that every believer contributes to the body of Christ. A church marked by these fruits will encourage spiritual growth, unity, and compassion

  •  Why You Might Choose Not to Worship Corporately with a Particular Group

While corporate worship is important, there are times when it may not be appropriate to participate. This chapter will explore reasons why you may choose not to engage with a specific church or fellowship.

  • Note: The Presence of False Teaching

If the church promotes teachings that deviate from the gospel—whether through too much emphasis on “secondary, not fully eternal Demas type things, (prime examples “each  being “‘gifted”  materially blessed, “being submitted over”everybody”, busy body, unjust accusation, rumor spreading, knee jerk reactionary legalism, name calling, ever present Phariseeism , psychic occult, (stickler for the rules, but no genuine love) or manipulative practices—it may be a warning sign not to participate.(more 2 Timothy 3:1-8,  I Timothy 6:5, Psalm 144: 7-11, 2 Timothy 2:24-26 for starters)

The New Testament warns against false doctrine (1 Timothy 4:1-2, 2 Timothy 4:3-4). As a leader, it is crucial to evaluate whether the teaching you are receiving aligns with the whole counsel of God and the truth of Scripture.

  • Note: The Abuse of Spiritual Authority

If the leadership is authoritarian, manipulative, or abusive, it can cause(great, lasting, even forever) damage, undue warfare (spiritual, perspective, quality of life, eagle)  harm.

A church that requires members to submit blindly to leadership without offering mutual respect or fostering a healthy, servant-oriented leadership structure may be a place to avoid. Jesus warned against leaders who sought to dominate others (Matthew 23:8-12). Church should be a place of humility and mutual submission (Ephesians 5:21).

  •  Disunity or Division in the Body

Corporate worship should promote unity in the Spirit. If you find that there is consistent division, gossip, or spiritual abuse, unrelenting false witness, “us against YOU, THEM” happening within the church community, this is a sign that the church may not be spiritually healthy. Paul addresses this in 1 Corinthians 1:10, where he exhorts the believers to “agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you.”

  •  Lack of Accountability and Biblical Correction
  • Church Leader, Staff please see Psalm 132: 9, 16, Jesus as prophet Hebrews 1:9
  • Mind Reading Divining “Psycho-prophets” read  Proper relationship respect humble Galatians 1:1-2, Matthew 18:15-16, I John 1:7, Ephesians 5:21, 2:14-15, Ephesians 4)

The Bible teaches that church leaders are responsible for the spiritual health of the congregation, including the admonition and discipline of members who may stray (Matthew 18:15-17, 2 Timothy 4:2).

If a church does not provide an environment for biblical correction and accountability, it could signal that the leadership is not committed to helping believers grow in Christ likeness.

6: The Corporate Anointing—The Power and the Pollution

Corporate worship is where the anointing of God is released in a powerful way, particularly when believers gather in unity. However, the presence of God and the power of the corporate anointing can be polluted by outside influences, hidden agendas, and unhealthy spiritual practices.

  •  The Power of the Corporate Anointing

In Matthew 18:20, Jesus says, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them.” There is a unique presence and anointing when believers gather together. This corporate anointing can bring healing, deliverance, revelation, and strength to the body of Christ. This power can only be realized when the congregation is in alignment with God’s Word and filled with His Spirit.

  •  How the Corporate Anointing Can Be Polluted

Just as the anointing is powerful in corporate worship, it can be polluted by unholy practices, false doctrine, and wrong motives. The presence of division, manipulation, legalism, or unsanctioned spiritual practices can hinder the flow of the Spirit and dilute the power of God. When an individual’s motives or teachings are not aligned with God’s truth, it can disrupt the worship experience and prevent the church from fully experiencing the corporate anointing.

  •  TD’ Practices: The Pencil Illustration

To illustrate the purity and contamination of corporate worship, consider the pencil illustration: A pencil has a clean, sharp point designed to write clearly and effectively. But when the point is dulled or the pencil is broken, its effectiveness is compromised. Similarly, the church’s worship can be “dulled” or hindered by spiritual issues like false teaching, manipulation, or selfish agendas. Spiritual purity and alignment are required to maintain the effectiveness of corporate worship and the anointing that flows from it.

  •  The Importance of Purity in Worship

When individuals or groups introduce unclean motives, distractions, or false teachings into the body of Christ, it affects the corporate anointing. Holiness is required in order for the anointing to flow freely and for worship to be truly effective. Purity in leadership and worship is necessary to maintain a pure, uninterrupted flow of God’s presence.

Training New Ministers 3

Fellowship with the saints is one of the most beautiful experiences in the Christian journey when done in the right spirit. Hebrews 10:25 (KJV) encourages believers to gather together, not as a form of legalistic obligation, but for mutual encouragement, strength, and spiritual growth. However, this verse has often been misused, leading to authoritarian control, legalistic pressure, and a sense of captivity in some Christian circles.

The key to understanding true fellowship is knowing the “is” and “is not” of gathering together. Let’s explore these concepts to provide biblical clarity and empower believers to discern between healthy and harmful church experiences.

1. Understanding Hebrews 10:25 in Context

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)

Greek Word Study

  • Forsaking (egkataleipō) — To abandon, desert, or neglect. This word indicates a willful withdrawal from gathering together with believers, not an occasional absence.

  • Assembling (episynagōgē) — A communal gathering for worship, encouragement, and teaching. This does not solely refer to a formal church service but any intentional gathering of believers.

  • Exhorting (parakaleō) — To encourage, comfort, or urge strongly. The purpose of gathering is to build one another up in faith.

What This Means Today

  • Hebrews 10:25 is not a command for forced attendance but a call to intentional fellowship.

  • It does not suggest that salvation is dependent on church attendance. Instead, it emphasizes the importance of mutual encouragement as we face the challenges of life and the last days.

2. The Joy and Purpose of Fellowship

When done in a pure, Christ-centered way, fellowshipping with the saints can be a profound blessing. Different personalities, strengths, and weaknesses can come together, reflecting the diversity of the Body of Christ. Through worship, teaching, and shared experiences, believers are encouraged and strengthened.

Why We Love to Fellowship

  1. Christ’s Presence“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20 KJV)

    • Fellowship invites the manifest presence of Jesus when believers gather with sincere hearts.

  2. Mutual Edification — The goal is to build up one another spiritually, emotionally, and practically.

  3. Accountability and Support — Genuine fellowship provides a network of support, encouragement, and loving correction.

  4. Celebrating Diversity — Different strengths, backgrounds, and spiritual gifts enrich the community.

3. Recognizing When Fellowship Turns Toxic

Unfortunately, not all gatherings are Christ-centered. Some misuse Hebrews 10:25 to manipulate, control, or guilt-trip believers into blind loyalty. This often stems from authoritarian leadership or institutional self-interest.

Red Flags of Toxic Fellowship

  1. Authoritarian Control — Leaders demand obedience rather than serve with humility.

  2. Legalism and Fear — Attendance is enforced through guilt and fear, rather than a love for God and community.

  3. Ego and Manipulation — Self-serving leaders prioritize their status over the spiritual well-being of others.

  4. Exclusivity and Isolation — Healthy fellowship welcomes all believers, but toxic groups foster cliques, favoritism, or exclusion. (pet persons, ‘respecter of persons, partiality (Not James 3:17 humble, mature “relationship” fruit)

  5. Lack of Fruit — Instead of encouraging spiritual growth, the environment stifles personal growth, critical thinking, and joy.

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV)

4. Biblical Response: Turning Away from Toxicity

The Bible gives clear instruction when faced with destructive or false fellowship.

  • Discern with Wisdom — Pray for discernment and consult Scripture to evaluate whether the fellowship reflects the heart of Christ.

  • Guard Your Spirit — Protect your peace and spiritual growth by stepping away from toxic environments.

  • Seek Godly Community — Find a fellowship where the focus is on Jesus, not man-made hierarchies or fear-driven control.

  • Embrace Authentic Relationships — True fellowship exists where believers are free to grow, question, and support one another.

“From such withdraw thyself.”1 Timothy 6:5 (KJV)

5. Final Thoughts and Training Takeaway

When two or more are gathered in Jesus’ name, His presence is there. This truth transcends buildings, denominations, or formal gatherings. True fellowship is marked by mutual respect, love, and the pursuit of God’s presence.

To train and guide others, encourage believers to:

  • Seek Authentic Fellowship — Value relationships rooted in Christ rather than loyalty to a system.

  • Recognize the Fruits of the Spirit — Healthy gatherings exhibit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and humility.

  • Stand Firm Against Manipulation — Teach discernment to identify and avoid legalism and authoritarian control.

  • Embrace the Spirit of Christ — Fellowship should reflect the grace, truth, and servant-hearted leadership of Jesus.

By understanding the proper application of Hebrews 10:25 and heeding the warnings of Paul in 2 Timothy 3:1-8 and 1 Timothy 6:5, believers can experience the joy of genuine, life-giving fellowship — a reflection of the early church and the heart of Christ.

From such turn away — not from gathering with believers, but from false, ego-driven environments. Instead, gather in His name, knowing that He is there.

Training New Ministers 4

Training on Prioritizing God’s Voice Over Performance in Ministry

In a world where ministries often place heavy emphasis on presentation, appearance, and numbers, it is refreshing and encouraging to hear a senior pastor state the truth plainly — “It’s not about the building; it’s about the people who come to hear from God.”

This Bible organic, “Cross Body Unity, T D’Arcy (pure community) perspective reflects a Kingdom-minded, servant-hearted leadership approach, rejecting the temptation to value performance over authentic spiritual encounters. In this training, we will explore how to cultivate a ministry that prioritizes hearing from God and ensures that every person who enters the building understands their divine appointment with the Lord.

  • 1. Main Point: A Kingdom Mindset: Every Person Has an Appointment with God

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”Matthew 18:20 (KJV)

When believers gather, it is not merely for socializing or observing a polished production. It is a sacred opportunity for each person to have a personal encounter with God. Whether it is a large congregation in a majestic sanctuary or a small gathering in a humble space, the importance is not the venue but the Presence of the Lord.

Key Principles to Emphasize

  1. God’s Personal Appointment — Every person is valuable in God’s eyes, and each one is invited to experience Him personally.

  2. Equity in Worship — There are no social, financial, or positional distinctions in God’s presence. Everyone stands equal before the Lord.

  3. Expectancy Over Entertainment — Encourage congregants to come expecting to hear from God rather than to be entertained.

  4. Ministry Beyond Appearances — Ministries should strive to create environments that foster genuine worship and spiritual growth, not just impressive aesthetics.

“But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)

3. Main Point: Rejecting the Performance Mentality

A “performance mentality” can seep into churches when the focus shifts toward impressing peoplerather than pleasing God. This can lead to competition, comparison, and even burnout in leadership.Instead, leaders and congregants alike must remember that God is not moved by outward performances but by hearts that are genuinely seeking Him.

  • Signs of a Performance-Driven Ministry
  • Prioritizing aesthetics and production value over spiritual depth.

  • Measuring success solely by numbers, popularity, or finances.

  • Creating an atmosphere of celebrity culture in leadership.

  • Neglecting the spiritual growth and personal needs of the people.

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”John 4:24 (KJV)

  • Steps to Overcome the Performance Mindset
  1. Refocus on God’s Presence — Start every service, planning meeting, and event with prayer, seeking God’s direction.

  2. Value Spiritual Growth — Celebrate testimonies of transformed lives, not just attendance records.

  3. Empower All Voices — Encourage participation from all believers, regardless of title or perceived status.

  4. Cultivate Humility in Leadership — Teach that leadership is a calling to serve, not a platform for fame.

“And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.”Matthew 20:27 (KJV)

4.Main Point:  Embracing the Power of Genuine Community

A ministry that acknowledges God’s appointments for each person creates a space for genuine community and growth. In such an environment, the focus shifts from external appearances to internal transformation.

Encouraging a Christ-Centered Community

  • Foster a Welcoming Spirit — Every individual should feel valued and seen, whether it’s their first visit or they’ve attended for years.

  • Promote Authentic Relationships — Create opportunities for small groups, prayer circles, and personal discipleship.

  • Equip the Saints — Train people to grow in their spiritual gifts and serve others, reflecting the heart of Christ.

  • Offer Pastoral Care — Provide avenues for personal ministry, counseling, and prayer support.

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”Galatians 6:2 (KJV

5. Main Point: Shifting the Language of Leadership
Church Subcultures: Ministry Prayer, Praying in Tongues, Preying in Tongues

TD means “using language ” in private as well as in public..word cursing, glib, shallow “accustomed” know more, seen it all, ministry typecasting, taking persons for granted ..disrespecting “types” biased toward..praying against, undue preacher back biting..usually reason: Jaded, jaundiced over done.. due to years of experience

  • Words have power, especially from the pulpit. When pastors and leaders emphasize God’s presence and the importance of hearing from Him, it sets the tone for the congregation.
  • The statement made by the senior pastor — “It’s not the building; it’s the people, and each one is on an appointment with God” — is a prime example of the kind of language that edifies and redirects the focus toward the Lord.

Phrases to Encourage

  • “We gather to encounter God together.”

  • “Every person here has a divine appointment today.”

  • “Let’s quiet our hearts and listen for God’s voice.”

  • “True worship is about spirit and truth, not performance.”

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.”Hebrews 10:22 (KJV)

6. Main Point: ‘A Call to Authentic Ministry

Apostle Taveau D’Arcy proclaims:

The Hebrews 10:24-25 (note that is both verses) is

JESUS TURF not OURS.

Hence, this is not “proof of how great we are.” It is not prophetic showbiz, a class system, opportunist Demas playtime, nor is it about counting our money or “performing” being gifted.

This is about the First Church classicabiding in the Vine and fellowshipping with the saints — and it must not be taken for granted. Real people’s lives are the bottom line, and the weight of their realities is heavy beyond the church walls. For many, it can mean life or death before they step into the sanctuary, seeking a moment of refuge and breathing space.

Additionally, countless leaders, those in law enforcement, single parents, singles, and others may endure accusations, emotional and psychological abuse, demeaning physical abuse, and toxic, dominating cultures. They may carry the weight of personal sacrifice, deep poverty, or the challenges of being an expat or eager international.

Thus, it is essential to learn empathy and not become what I call a “dry bones, compassion-fatigued, latter-day opportunistic freak ministry.” Each person, including myself, is created in the image of God and may be walking through their own private, personal hell. They do not need to be accused or biased against by the staff or so-called elite leaders.

LOST HIS FIRST LOVE When churches embrace this understanding — that people are not there for performance but to meet with God — it results in ministries marked by authenticity, humility, and spiritual growth. It breaks down barriers of comparison and striving, replacing them with worship, community, and the transforming power of God’s presence.

As leaders and believers, let us remember:

  • The size of the building does not determine the size of God’s presence.

  • Each person who enters has a divine appointment with the Lord.

  • Success is measured by spiritual fruit that remains, not by external appearances.

  • True ministry leads people to fix their eyes on Jesus, not on the stage or surroundings.

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)

May our ministries be marked by this Kingdom mindset — focused on God’s presence, equipping the saints, and valuing every divine appointment.

Training New Ministers 5

Training on the True Focus of Fellowship: Beyond Buildings and Numbers

When believers gather in fellowship, it is easy for the focus to shift toward external factors — the size of the building, the quality of the music, the crowd size, or even the celebrity status of leadership.

However, the heart of true Christian fellowship is not about appearances or numbers. It’s about seeking the presence of the Lord, edifying one another, and growing in authentic relationship with God and others.

This training will explore how to cultivate a ministry that honors God above all, recognizing the pluses of Hebrews 10:25 in fellowship, while remaining vigilant against distractions and false influences.

1. Hebrews 10:25: The Call to Fellowship

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)

Key Takeaways from Hebrews 10:25

  • Not Forsaking — Believers are encouraged to make gathering a priority. This doesn’t imply legalistic attendance but highlights the importance of genuine community.

  • Exhorting One Another — The purpose of gathering is mutual encouragement, correction, and support.

  • The Day Approaching — Awareness of the Lord’s return should create a sense of urgency to grow in faith and live rightly.

Fellowship, when done in the right spirit, offers spiritual strength, community accountability, and growth. Yet, as churches grow, challenges can arise.

2. The Dangers of Shifting Focus to Buildings and Numbers

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”Matthew 18:20 (KJV)

While large gatherings can be a beautiful expression of unity, there is a risk of shifting the focus away from God. Some common distractions include:

  1. Building Idolatry — When the building’s size, design, or grandeur becomes a symbol of success.

  2. Celebrity Culture — Elevating pastors, leaders, or musicians above the Lord.

  3. Performance Over Presence — Prioritizing production value rather than authentic worship.

  4. Numbers Over Souls — Measuring success purely by attendance rather than spiritual transformation.

A Pastor’s Wisdom

It’s commendable when pastors, like the one in the Charlotte region, remind congregations that the building is not the point — the Lord is. This statement shifts hearts and minds toward the eternal rather than the external.

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”Colossians 3:2 (KJV)

3. Navigating the Wheat and the Tares

“Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.”Matthew 13:30 (KJV)

Large gatherings often bring a mixture of genuine believers (wheat) and those who may not truly know the Lord (tares). Additionally, spiritual deception, worldly ideologies, or self-serving ambitions can seep into the Body of Christ.

How to Discern and Respond

  1. Stay Grounded in the Word — Continual biblical teaching is essential. Leaders must prioritize sound doctrine over trendy messages.

  2. Pray for Discernment — The Holy Spirit provides wisdom to recognize false influences.

  3. Address Issues with Grace and Truth — Leaders should correct in love, as modeled in Galatians 6:1.

  4. Promote Accountability — Establish small groups and pastoral care systems to ensure personal growth and biblical alignment.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”1 John 4:1 (KJV)

4. Reframing the Concept of Success

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

True success in ministry is not measured by how impressive a building is or how many people attend a service. Rather, success is evident in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and lives that are transformed by Christ.

Eternal Fruit That Remains

  • Discipleship and spiritual maturity.

  • Strong, healthy relationships within the Body of Christ.

  • Humility in leadership, avoiding authoritarian control.

  • A spirit of worship and prayer that permeates the church.

Hebrews 10:25 Plus in Ministry:

  • Encouraging participation that promotes genuine fellowship.

  • Teaching sound doctrine without bias or favoritism.

  • Cultivating a community conscious of God’s presence rather than external appearances.

V. Practical Steps for Leaders

  1. Keep the Focus on Jesus — Every service, event, or program should intentionally point people to the Lord.

  2. Evaluate the Heart of Worship — Encourage sincere, Spirit-led worship rather than focusing on production.

  3. Teach the Word Faithfully — Prioritize Bible-centered teaching that equips believers to grow in faith.

  4. Cultivate Relationships — Create opportunities for people to connect in small groups for personal growth.

  5. Model Humility — Leaders should remain servants, rejecting the lure of celebrity culture.

“And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.”Matthew 20:27 (KJV

Conclusion: A Call to True Fellowship

When two or more gather in His name, God promises to be present. Whether it’s in a small prayer group or a mega-church with thousands, the heart of the matter remains the same — are we focused on the Lord?

May every ministry reflect the character of Christ, bearing eternal fruit, teaching sound doctrine, and encouraging a genuine, Spirit-led fellowship among the saints.
